A Fancy Foodie Weekend at the Albemarle Inn in Asheville

Asheville, where have you been all my life?! Honestly, Asheville would probably respond, “In the western part of the state, dummy. You know that place where you rarely hang out? You’re the one always talking…

The End of Ecuador! 36 Hours in Cuenca

Having strayed from my south-bound route in order to visit Charlie in Quito, I had to traverse the country of Ecuador yet again and make my way toward Peru. I’d heard that Cuenca was a beautiful…

Ziplining, Butterflies, and Chocolate: Two Nights in Mindo

We escaped Quito on Thanksgiving day to the cloud forest city of Mindo, Ecuador. A quick two hour bus ride away, we needed to get some nature into Charlie during his brief Ecuadorian vacay. Plus, I’d…

How to Make Quito Not Suck

Now I know, I know… I’ve already shared how lots of backpackers talk shit about Bogotá and Santa Marta and other big cities in South America. Even Lima gets its fair share of the negative Nancys, but I…

Galapagos Cruise Tips (Or How to Have a Better Time, Based on What I Did)

I’ll be honest:  I walked into my Galapagos trip with high expectations and very little background knowledge. I’d kinda gotten to the end of my month in Colombia and thought, “Oh man, I really…

Hi, I’m Rachel

Hi, I’m Rachel

I quit my job to travel the world in 2015 and never went back. Along the way, I met a British guy and started working online. I love beaches, markets, warm weather, and spicy food. After traveling for 8 years, we've settled down in Mallorca! For more current posts, check out Instagram.

More Europe 2022 🥂 ✨
We went to Texas. 🤠 I didn’t take nearly enough pictures of tacos.
Way more accurate representations of the big day (and me)…10/10 recommend having a small wedding with only people you love.
.
So sad we didn’t drag 📸 extraordinaire @meloberryphotography on the boat with us the next day to capture more ridiculousness. She’s the best (and the coolest).
Honeymoons by Marko. BYO bear spray. ⛰ 🐻 🍻 #jacksonhole
We finally did it.🍾 Heck of a Labor Day weekend!
MONOPOLI! Went for the old town views, stayed for the three-hour leisurely lunch. 🍷 🦞 🍝 #monopoli
Took a trip through the heel of the boot! 🇮🇹 #puglia #salento #leuca #apulia
Remember friends? + a few other good reasons to visit home 🇺🇸
So lucky that I walked into that elevator in Southeast Asia and never let you out of my sight... If you thought you couldn’t shake me then, good luck now! Here’s to many more laughs, countries, and years together! ...And Marko readily admits that proposals at Christmas are basic, but man, he LOVES Christmas - and surprises!
¡Nos vemos México! Adiós fish tacos, chilaquiles, big waves, dirt roads, and all... Now let’s hope all goes well en route to RDU. See you guys at home! 🇲🇽 😘🌮#lapunta #puertoescondido #oaxaca #mexico #playas #lapuntapuertoescondido
Pretty sad to leave Puerto and our tiny little place in La Punta. It’s the longest we’ve stayed anywhere ever (since quitting our jobs anyway). 🇲🇽 ☀️ ❤️ Already discussing when to go back... hopefully sans Corona, cuarentena, and closed beaches next time. 🌊 For now, we’re just enjoying air conditioning, trying not to overstay these tourist visas, and doing our best to avoid the virus on the way home! ✈️ #vivamexico #oaxaca #lapunta #puertoescondido #mexico #lapuntapuertoescondido
Normally, I’m pretty embarrassed of America as I watch from abroad. People ask what North Carolina is like, if they should visit, and I’ve responded with, “Well, it’s beautiful, but you’ll have to deal with some racism and homophobia.” (This was especially true after NC made international news for its beloved bathroom law.) But right now, it feels like we’re on the verge of real change. 🖤 It’s exciting, it’s scary, and I’m in support of those protesting. From outside the US, I’ll be listening, reading, donating, and voting (yeah, suck it, Trump, they let me vote ONLINE, I bet you hate that). #blackouttuesday
Not much new to report here.☀️ May is the hottest month. Beaches still closed. Waves getting bigger. Beautiful as ever. 🌊 #lapunta #puertoescondido #mexico #oaxaca #lapuntapuertoescondido
Our last friend is heading home from Mexico ✈️ bye Emma!!! ✈️ and now we shall social distance... except for Marko. He can never get away from me. 😬 It appears we’re in Mexico for the foreseeable future. (Could be worse, right? 🤷🏼‍♀️) Here in Puerto through mid-April and then, well, I guess we’ll have to figure things out!? 🇲🇽 It’s not too crazy here yet, but we’ll slowly stock up on groceries and hole up at our place... which is honestly what we do half the time anyway while we work. And quarantine isn’t so bad when you can go sit on the beach (for now). Godspeed, everybody! #lapunta #puertoescondido #lapuntapuertoescondido #mexico #laplaya #beach #coronavirus #stuckinmexico #couldbeworse
When you’re heading into this weekend still worn out from last weekend... 🏝🇲🇽☀️ Thanks for visiting, @bconn610 and @thisjustintyler ! Hope to catch you somewhere else in the world very soon! Maybe less mezcal next time? Or maybe not... #lapunta #puertoescondido #oaxaca #mezcal #mexico #lapuntapuertoescondido
We decided to stay in La Punta til mid-April. It’ll be the longest we’ve stayed anywhere. Funnily enough, it’s one of the most basic places we’ve ever rented, but the quality of life is 👌🏽 🌅 🌴 🌊 Mexico is so underrated. #lapunta #puertoescondido #mexico #oaxaca
Successful trip to CDMX with the fam. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite big cities in the world! #mexicocity #cdmx #alpastor #bazarfusion #blancocolima #castillodechapultepec #tacos #quesadillas
Me and mom. Definitely not peeing. #puertoescondido #mexico #lapunta
Weekend stuff. 🌴🏖 🏊‍♀️ Visited Playa Carrizalillo, beach number three and the most dramatic (and swimmable) so far! Found a place that serves margs, caipiroskas, and Pacifico - surprisingly tough beer to find here! - and created a nice little bar tab for ourselves. Will return. 🍻 #carrizalillo #puertoescondido #playacarrizalillo #mexico #playa #beachporn #pacifico
Stuff around town... #puertoescondido #mexico 🏖 🇲🇽
